CIP Secures Key Approval for 1.5 GW Haewoori Floating Wind Farm in South Korea

Haewoori Offshore Wind, a subsidiary of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), has secured approval for the Marine Traffic Safety Assessment (MTSA) from South Korea’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries for its ambitious 1.5 GW floating offshore wind project.

This key regulatory milestone follows years of intensive collaboration with government authorities and local stakeholders, ensuring the project meets the highest standards of maritime safety and environmental responsibility.

The company emphasized its ongoing commitment to safety and sustainability, pledging to work closely with coastal communities and industry partners to support South Korea’s clean energy transition.

Located approximately 80 kilometers off the coast of Ulsan, the Haewoori floating wind farm is being developed in three phases. CIP, through its project management arm Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP), has already obtained Electric Business Licenses (EBLs) for all phases and awarded a major contract for the design, production, transportation, and installation of floating foundations.

In a parallel development, Swedish developer Hexicon announced this week that its 750 MW MunmuBaram floating wind project has also successfully completed the MTSA and is now advancing to the next permitting stage, including the Radio Wave Impact Assessment (RWIA).

The Haewoori project represents a significant step forward in South Korea’s offshore wind ambitions, leveraging advanced floating technology to unlock deep-water wind resources and contribute to the nation’s renewable energy goals.
