MONO PILE INSTALATION VESSEL

Sustainable Lifecycle: Windecom Wind Decommissioning & Vitruvian Vessel 3D Animation

About Windecom

Windecom is a pioneering engineering and logistics contractor specializing in the lifecycle management of offshore wind farms, with a core focus on sustainable decommissioning and asset removal. As early-generation offshore wind turbines reach the end of their operational lifespans, Windecom delivers turnkey solutions for dismantling mega-structures at sea. Utilizing specialized heavy-lift units and cutting-edge marine vessels like the Vitruvian, Windecom ensures that blades, nacelles, towers, and foundations are safely extracted, transported, and brought ashore for green recycling.

What Client Problem Did We Solve?

While installing offshore wind farms receives massive global attention, dismantling them safely at the end of their lifecycle is an equally complex engineering challenge. Reversing the installation process requires lifting enormous, weathered components from dynamic marine environments without damaging subsea ecosystems or risking vessel stability. Explaining the reversal of rigging sequences, structural cutting techniques, and deck-space management for disassembled assets to energy operators and environmental regulators is incredibly difficult using static models or data sheets.

Fidar Animation engineered a highly accurate multi-part 3D technical animation series that serves as the definitive operational blueprint for Windecom. By visualizing the entire decommissioning campaign—from the stabilization of the Vitruvian vessel to the systematic removal of turbine components—this video eliminates operational ambiguity. Windecom can now utilize this high-end visual tool to win major international decommissioning tenders, demonstrate strict environmental compliance, and secure fast-track approvals from port authorities and offshore energy stakeholders.

Video Highlights: Engineering Precision & Visual Details

This industrial animation focuses on accurate mechanical disassembly sequences, heavy-lift logistics, and specialized maritime vessel engineering. Key technical details highlighted in the project include:

  • The Vitruvian Heavy-Lift Vessel: Detailed 3D structural modeling of the specialized Vitruvian vessel, showcasing its expansive deck layout, heavy-duty marine cranes, and advanced stabilization features designed for offshore decommissioning.
  • Turbine Disassembly Sequencing: A step-by-step mechanical simulation of the decommissioning process, accurately visualizing the rigging, unbolting, and lifting of massive wind blades, the nacelle, and structural tower sections.
  • Monopile and Foundation Extraction: Precise engineering visualization of subsea cutting tools and heavy-lift rigging systems pulling foundations cleanly out of the seabed, minimizing marine disturbance.
  • Deck Layout and Cargo Management: Accurate spatial representation of how dismantled turbine parts are safely oriented, stacked, and secured using custom grillage and sea-fastening systems on the vessel’s deck.
  • Port Logistics and Reverse Loading: Visualizing the vessel returning to specialized industrial ports, where heavy onshore cranes offload the decommissioned components directly into dedicated recycling and processing zones.
  • Realistic Marine & Environmental Simulation: High-fidelity rendering of dynamic ocean waves, wind farm atmospheric conditions, and precise structural lighting that satisfies the strict standards of maritime engineering experts.
